| To illustrate the history of slavery in North America, this grade 11 student's collage incorporates the central image of metal wrist cuffs, of which she created a three-dimensional version. The verisimilitude of these -- designed to give the viewer an empathetic experience of being shackled -- is reinforced by the historical source material of the artist's photocopies: photos and drawings of slaves, freed slaves, and abolitionists. | |
